Mineral composition of clayfire bricks are mainly kaolinite (Al2O3·2SiO2·2H2O) and 6~7% impurities (oxide of Ka, Na, Ca, Ti, Fe). The firing process is mainly dehydration and decomposition of kaolinite continually. SiO2 and Al2O3 in firing process with impurities form eutectic melting point of silicate and surround around the mullite crystal.

Fire Clay Bricks’ refractoriness, similar with silica refractory bricks, reach up to 1690~1730℃. But its refractoriness under load is lower over 200℃ than silica refractory bricks. Because Fire Clay Bricks not only contain high refractoriness mullite crystal, but also contain almost half low-melting-point noncrystalline glass phase.
At the temperature range of 0~1000℃, Fire Clay Bricks’ bulk will expand uniformly with the temperature rising and the linear expansion is similar with a straight line. Its linear expansivity is 0.6~0.7% that is only about half of silica refractory bricks’. When the temperature reaches up to 1200℃ and then keeps rising, its bulk will start to shrink from the maximum value of expansion. Fire Clay Bricks’ after contraction result the crack of brick mortar joint which is a big disadvantage of fireclay brick. When the temperature reaches up to 1200℃, fire clay bricks’ low melting temperature phase starts to fuse little by little. Unit weight of large scale fire clay brick used to build glass furnace is not less than 50kg. China (YB/T 5108-1993) stipulates the physicochemical indexes, permissible variation in dimension and appearance of large scale fire clay bricks for glass furnace use.

- Length of Brick≤400mm. When slabbing width is 0.26~0.50mm, the length is not more than 40mm. When slabbing width is 0.51~1mm, the length is not more than 25mm.
- Length of Brick＞400mm. When slabbing width is 0.26~0.50mm, the length is not more than 80mm. When slabbing width is 0.51~1mm, the length is not more than 50mm.
- Slabbing width of Crack ＜0.25mm, the length is unlimited.
There should not exit hole and crack that are more than 1mm on the fracture surface.
Application of Fire Clay Brick for Sale
As the refractoriness under load of clayfire bricks are low, result expansion in high temperature, thermal conductivity is lower 15~20% than silica refractory bricks, mechanical strength is weak than silica brick.
